Online Baccarat Rules

The game of Baccarat is interesting in that the players bet on hands that they don’t actually play. Two hands are deals, called the “banker” and the “player”, and each player must bet on which hand they think will win the game.

A bet on either hand to win pays out one-to-one, though most casinos charge a 5% commission on this bet, making the odds 0.95-to-1. Another baccarat wager is the tie bet, which is a bet that the two hands will tie. This bet pays out 8-to-1 or 9-to-1, depending on the casino.

All bets are placed before the cards are dealt, and the score of a hand is worked out by adding the values of the individual cards. All cards carry face value, though tens and face cards carry a value of zero. If the total score is more than ten, the ‘tens’ are dropped, meaning that there can only be possible scores in baccarat between 0 and 9. For example, a 7 and a 9, would equal 16, the tens are dropped leaving a total of 6.

The hand with the highest score wins the game, and if both hands have the same score, it is called a tie.

Both hands are dealt two cards, with a possible additional card to make up the score. The two hands are played as such:
When the player’s hand totals more than 6, the player must stay with that hand.

If the player’s hand totals 5 or less, the player must draw one more card.

When the banker’s hand totals more than 7, the banker must stand.
If the bankers hand totals between 0 and 2, the banker draws another card.

When the baker’s hand totals between 3 and 6, then the banker’s draw is determined by the player’s score, a table of which will be displayed by the casino.
